AI & CYBERSECURITY

AI Is Becoming a Cybersecurity Actor

Capability matters, but authorized access and governance matter just as much.

Advanced AI systems are increasingly capable of supporting vulnerability discovery, secure code review, incident response, and defensive cyber operations.

AI is moving from a passive security tool toward a participant in cyber defense. It can help identify vulnerabilities, review code, analyze malware, summarize incidents, and support defensive operations at a pace that changes the economics of response.

That capability is inherently dual-use. The same planning and code understanding that help a defender can create risk when access is unauthorized or controls are weak. Governance must therefore cover identity, scope, logging, escalation, and the boundary between analysis and action.

The governance of cyber-capable AI may become as important as the capability itself. Responsible deployment will require clearly authorized environments, human review for consequential actions, and evaluation that measures both defensive value and misuse exposure.
